An error message appears when I try to send or download messages.

There are various reasons for not being able to send or download e-mail; however the e-mail program always provides a code and error message. The error message is essential to understanding the cause of the problem.

Your problem will fall within one of these two categories. This makes it easier to resolve:

Situation 1 – It is the first time you have tried to send or download e-mail from this account

Errors such as: Impossible to connect to the server – Incorrect username or password – Authentication denied.

Data might have been entered incorrectly during account configuration. Follow the instructions in one of these articles:

How to read e-mail in Windows Mail (Windows Vista)

How to read e-mail in Outlook Express (Windows XP / 2000)

Otherwise the account created on the control panel may not yet have been created on the e-mail server. Please try again in an hour.

It is equally possible your computer's firewall is preventing access to the e-mail account. If so, you need to disable the firewall.

Situation 2 – You have already sent e-mail from this account without problems

The server might be too busy due to an excessive number of requests.

In this case it’s best not to keep trying to send an e-mail. Wait for about 20 minutes before trying to send it again.

Please send us a support message only if the problem persists for more than 6 hours.

Most of the time, software automatically detects any problems with the e-mail server.

Furthermore, you must carry out the checks in this guide before putting in a request for support.

There are also various filters on the e-mail server, such as the anti-tarpitting filter.

This filter prevents the delivery of unauthorized mailing lists. The server may prevent you from sending a large number of e-mails at the same time.

The server might also deny delivery of a message to a recipient, for instance if the recipient’s e-mail address is in an anti-spam list. Try sending an e-mail to another address; we are not able to offer a solution for problems with a single e-mail address.
